Is customization going to cost you?

Mr. Yellow selected an EHR that presented well and was given a version that the vendor felt met his clinics needs.

When his providers asked to have alterations made in the documentation selection fields, Mr. Yellow was given a quote pricing each change necessary. Mr. Yellow was unable to commit to the pricing necessary to make these changes; therefore the providers were not willing to continue the use of the chosen EHR.

When researching EHR vendors, it is imperative that the vendor allows for personal customization of the product. Although many EHR products come with robust starter sets, those sets may not meet the needs of every provider in your clinic. The EHR should also be flexible enough to have customization performed at the point of care.
