Built for the People
Who Actually Run Medicine

Sevocity has spent more than 20 years building exactly one kind of software: an EHR for independent practices. Not hospitals. Not health systems. The physicians who chose to practice on their own terms. We built this for them.

Who We Are

A software company that chose the harder path and stayed on it.

Conceptual MindWorks was building AI-driven software for U.S. Air Force aerospace medicine programs in the 1990s when its founder saw a different problem worth solving: physicians were drowning in paper records, and the tools being built to help them were designed around hospital workflows, not the realities of independent practice.

So in the early 2000s, we built what became Sevocity: an EHR desigend to operate over the internet well before SaaS and “cloud” systems became common, and we continue to evolve it today. Earning ONC certification, refining the platform, and keeping independent practices at the center of every decision.

We’ve never been acquired. We’ve never pivoted to hospitals. We remain a privately held, founder-led company in San Antonio, Texas, and that stability is something our customers feel in their daily workflows.

Founder Story

The Committed CEO

Elaine Mendoza grew up watching her father (a high school dropout turned Navy veteran) earn his bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degree. Her mother, who had been discouraged from attending college, would go on to retire as a school principal. What Elaine absorbed from them was simple: the only limits are the ones you accept.

After graduating from Texas A&M with a degree in aerospace engineering, Elaine went to work as a contractor for the U.S. Air Force, building software for avionics test systems. She saw firsthand what the possibilities of applying advanced technology could do, and in 1990, she founded Conceptual MindWorks to start building something more. The company’s first core competency was software applied to aerospace medicine, using artificial neural networks decades before AI entered mainstream conversation. Such work included modeling pilots’ loss of visual acuity when subjected to lasers pointed in the sky and causing lesions to their eyes (research that helped prepare aircrews for the Gulf War). From there, the company’s trajectory accelerated and diversified built on its software development, technical and customer service strengths.

In the early 2000s, while much of the industry was skeptical of hosting medical records online, Elaine saw where healthcare technology was headed and moved early. She launched Sevocity: an EHR designed to operate over the internet, well ahead of the industry’s shift away from on-site server systems to SaaS. That decision established a philosophy that continues to drive the company today: anticipate where providers need technology to go, then build for it before the market catches up.

“The model made too much sense. Certainly over time as online banking became more dominant and online shopping became prevalent, sure enough, our software-as-a-service model really gained steam. We haven’t looked back ever since.”

— Elaine Mendoza

Outside the company, Elaine gives back to the community in ways that span education, policy, and local civic life, including two terms (2011 to 2023) on the Texas A&M University System Board of Regents (where she became the first Hispanic to chair the board from 2019 to 2021) and currently chairing the Pre-K 4 SA Board of Directors. She was also an early pioneer in San Antonio’s tech community at a time when David Heard (who later founded Tech Bloc) called her and her peers San Antonio’s original tech pioneers, when the city hadn’t yet decided it could have a tech scene.

She still leads Sevocity with the same convictions she started with: serve team members of CMI well, build technology that solves real problems, do right by customers, and never let the size of a challenge keep you from tackling it.

Elaine has been a long-time mentor to me, and her approach to innovation and integrity is what drew me to Sevocity. There’s a genuine commitment here to doing right by providers, and that carries through the entire organization.

Why Sevocity

Four things we’ve never compromised on.

Built for Independent Practices

We’ve never chased the hospital market. Every feature, every update, every support model is shaped by what independent practices actually need not what a health system’s IT committee approved.

Certified & Continuously Compliant

ONC-certified. MIPS-ready. We’ve maintained certification since the program’s inception. You’re not inheriting compliance debt. You’re getting a platform that’s been current, every year, for nearly two decades.

SaaS Since 2003

We didn’t adapt to being an online EHR. We started there. No legacy server architecture. Minimal maintenance windows. A truly online EHR delivers secure access wherever care happens, without the limits of legacy systems.

People Who Pick Up the Phone

No overseas call centers. No ticket queues that disappear. When your practice has a question, a person at Sevocity answers it. Someone who knows the software and understands what a busy clinical day looks like.
